What is alpha male body language? Think about alpha male language by thinking what is not alpha male body language. Slaves and beta male monkeys follow the same rule, “Keep your head down.” If you want to be an alpha, do the opposite of what slaves do.
The beta male monkey has a closed off body and is looking down.
The beta male does not want to make eye contact, lest the alpha male feel that the beta male is making a challenge.
The beta male is hugging itself, in an unconscious desire to protect its vital organs from harm.
Alpha male body language means, as Tupac said, “Keep ya head up.” You’re not looking at the ground. You are looking up, willing to accept all challengers.
Watch this scene from The Wire, starting at 49 seconds. Michael meets the new drug lord, Marlo (the alpha male), who is upset that Michael turned down his money.
Notice how Michael is at first looking down, in a submissive pose – much like the monkeys above. When Marlo tries to punks him, the vanilla gorilla within Michael awakens. His chin rises. He makes eye contact.
He does not speak a word, but can you find a scene from TV or film that speaks more about going from average to alpha?
Being alpha is about signaling your size and status.
An alpha male signals two things. First, he is signaling that he has the confidence to stand up for himself. He is also signaling his physical fitness, namely he’s showing that he a body that women want. Second, he is signaling dominance to other men.
When your chest is out, you are showing off your size to the world. You are showing the world that you are willing to accept challenges to your status. When your chin is up, this signals to the world that you are not afraid of someone swinging at you.
You shoulders must remain back to fully display your chest and to keep you chin up. There is one problem.
In our modern society, we all have pronated shoulders. We slouch forward due to working at a computer and also due to slave morality. We are conditioned to not be masculine men. Foam rolling can help give you better posture, but stretching with weights is even more effective.
There are many exercises you can do to help you develop the posture of an alpha male. Here is one such exercise.
This exercise is not a dead lift. Go light. There is only 185 pounds on the bar.
The key is how I pull my shoulders back. I lift my chest up. I pull my neck back. I hold the position to get the full stretch.
What I’m going is pulling my scapula back and lifting my shoulders while stretching out my abdominal muscles.
This is more like stretching with weights than it is lifting weights.
Using alpha male body language lowers cortisol and boosts testosterone.
Cortisol is a stress hormone. There is an inverse relationship between testosterone and cortisol. In other words, if your cortisol rises, your testosterone levels plummet.
When you use alpha male body language, you lower your cortisol and thus raise your testosterone levels.
Try out that alpha male posture exercise.
I’m going to have many more videos along these lines. I’m still figuring this YouTube stuff out.
