Be careful with Beet juice, it has a laxative effect.

  • UnpluggedBeta

How much juice do you recommend preparing for a three day juice fast? Is the goal to completely replace the calories from other foods or are you doing much less?

    Thanks!

    • Danger & Play Blog

I would just have 5 juices. I’m not real big into counting calories or measuring punches. Probably would have 5, 16 ounce juices each day.

With some added protein powder or BCAAs.

  • I.Am.BEST

I’m 19, almost 20, and I’ve seen a few posts on other websites on TRT and taking test. I’ve read that if you start at 16, you’ll be fine AND that you should wait until you’re at least 23 (not from the same site, of course). What’s your idea of a good time to start?

    • Danger & Play Blog

Your hormones are optimal unless you have some sort of serious medical condition.

Eat big, lift big, and think about TRT in a few years.

  • Avon Barksdale

How many times do you juice a day? Should I be drinking 2 jars a day?

    • Danger & Play Blog

One juice is better than none and two juices are better than one.

I personally drink 1-2, 16 ounce juices a day. One juice is mostly greens without any apple and one juice is beets/carrots/ginger that I drink before and during my lifting session.

      • Avon Barksdale

        Thanks for the advice man!

  • Brissbrass

Can you juice everything in a masticating juicer or are you limited to only leafy greens?

    • Danger & Play Blog

      Everything.

  • Lucius Exitius

I’ve been looking into juicing for awhile, I am looking to lose a lot of weight (I’m 330). I lost a bunch of weight in my high school years and am trying to get back on track but i’m not sure if doing a juicing fast is safe or ever right for someone my weight.

    • Danger & Play Blog

It is safe but to be honest, I am not the man of to help you. Check out the Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead forums. Lots of people have lost mega amounts of fat while juicing.

Here’s how I personally lost 80 pounds of fat.

Just sharing my thoughts on the Omega J8006x. The “x” indicates it is a referb and after about a month of use I have had no problems with it what so ever. You save about 40 bucks when you go with this option on amazon. It does decrease the manufacturer’s warranty from 15 to 12 years though. Like Mike said below this thing juices anything with amazing efficiency. It basically augers everything down to a pulp, which comes out dry. It does have some trouble with softer fruits and veggies which is why I save the harder things for last to push that soft fibrous material out. You also don’t have to worry about waking up your neighbors with the sound of a skil-saw going off in your kitchen, this thing is quiet. Clean up consists of rinsing 3 parts out and 30 seconds with a brush to clean the screen out. So far I love mine and would encourage anyone on the fence to take the plunge, you won’t be disappointed that’s for sure.

    • Danger & Play Blog

This is a great tip. Thank you!

Ive tried bottled organic Beet juice for a week and have got used to the taste. Does it make a big difference if its bottled or juiced fresh?

    • Danger & Play Blog

Fresh is best, but how do you feel? If you’re getting results, do what works for you and your lifestyle.

  • Ruthless

Can you expect the same results by just eating the beets? I know you will gain additional calories and fiber but, absent a juicer, isn’t it basically the same thing?

    • C1263

I haven’t personally tried them solid, but from a convenience standpoint, it’s way easier just to drink beet juice.

    • Danger & Play Blog

I don’t know. Probably. I eat beets, too. I buy the cooked ones from Costco.

A 3 day juice fast helped me to overcome my coffee/tea addiction..It’s been 21 days since i had a single cup of coffee/tea and as a result I have reduced my sugar consumption by 60-70%. Nowadays whenever I carve a coffee,i just go and have a fruit juice(without sugar) and the craving disappears for hours..

    Thank you Mike..

    • Danger & Play Blog

      That’s great, krish!

      • krish

small update : its been 60 days without coffee/tea…holy shit..

Congrats! I went a year without caffeine. If/when you drink coffee again, you’ll realize what a powerful drug it is.

          • alex

lol at what a powerful drug it is. As an avid coffee drinker, I’ve always wondered how I would react to it if I “cycled” off it for a while. Mike, I know you drink a fair amount of coffee in coffee shops, but do you still drink Death Wish Coffee at home? Or have you discovered something better?

    • Vinay Hiremath

Have you noticed any benefits from not consuming caffeine itself? Like do you have more sustained energy throughout the day? Do you crash at night?

      • rks

I cannot speak for the above guy, but I’ve quit caffeine and can’t think of going back. I have mental clarity, sustained energy, anxiety free day, and sleep well at night. I cannot go back. Caffeine causes a quick boost in your coritsol levels(stress hormone) which is inversely proportional to your testosterone. If you have high cortisol, you cannot have high testosterone. High testosterone is key for vitality. There are many other factors as well. The need for those continuous cups of coffee is because you’ve stressed out your adrenal glads that they can’t regulate adrenaline and cortisol properly anymore, which is why you need to artificially boost them with a cup of coffee, and when it wears off, you have a crash. I can go on, but to anyone that is doubtful, I ask you to leave caffeine for a week or two and see how you feel. The clarity, vitality, and sustained energy is brilliant.

        • lemmycaution

          Didn’t know that about caffeine:

Hi Mike, I have tried beet juice, and as you said, after only 4 days of drinking 250 ml of it, I can see my veins more clearly on my arm.

But, my stomach is kinda upset after drinking my “beet juice coctail” (250 ml of beet juice, 250 ml of carrot juice, and 1 fresh citrome).

Did you have stomach problems in the beginning? Maybe I am drinking too much at once.

    • Danger & Play Blog

Your gut is filled with several pounds of bacteria and yeast. When you feed your gut beet juice, the “good bacteria” grow in strength, killing off the “bad bacteria.” The upset stomach is caused by the toxins that bacteria release when dying off. It’s called the herxheimer reaction.

Just made my first proper juice with my new machine, the Hamilton Big Mouth. It tastes better and is a cleaner fluid than using blender.

However, I noticed a ton of residue and solid came out in the waste receptacle. Is it best to focus on water heavy veggies/fruit?

This time around I used two Apples, 1 LB of carrots, bag of celery, two lemons, a cucumber, and two tomatoes.

    Any suggestions on maximizing fluid?

Thanks for turning me on to this.

    • Danger & Play Blog

That’s the perfect food to juice with. Here’s a guide to what type of fruit and vegetables to juice with when using a centrifugal juicer like the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Juice Extractor: http://fit-juice.com/what-is-the-best-juicer/

My GNC brand juicer just died, and I just picked up a Omega VRT350 through your affiliate link. Looking forward to putting that beast through its paces!

Mike, I’ve heard conflicting information about fruits and vegetables for 60 Day Fasts. Fruits have tons of sugar, and Vegetables have lots of carbs as well. So someone can drop weight despite this because of the nutritional value and calorie deficit, then what about the lack of protein and fat and high amounts of sugar? I know juicing works, but I’m not understanding how, since sugar can also NOT prevent weight loss. And should someone like me, who is very overweight and on a Low Carb Meal plan should even consider juicing yet? What about muscle retention and dealing with the metabolic rate changing after the fast is over?

    • rks

Vegetables don’t have tons of carbs. Infact quite less. Go on a juice fast, and a low carb diet, by just eating vegetables, and watch your weight drop, along with your muscle. There’s a reason that if you eat just salads, and vegetables you won’t feel full for long, because of the lack of carbs. I’m not suggesting you go on a low carb diet by eating just vegetables. I suggest you hit the gym hard, and after building muscle, go on a low carb diet, while maintaining your strength, and watch how fast you lose fat.

I got my juicer yesterday. My first juice was this:
4 carrots, some pumpkin, 1 inch ginger, 1 bushel of parsley, 2 pomegranates, 4 onions

I call it Benzin and it tastes awful (mainly because of the onions I think). But I don’t care. After the first sip I had to laugh. Wakes me up better than coffee and boosts testosterone. In the next version I will add half a beet.

I love juicing already. Thank you, Mike!

  • Raian

How often should one start juicing? Once a day? One juice pre meal? One day of juice fasting a week?

    • Danger & Play Blog

As much or as little time as you have.

  • Daniel S

I used to juice frequently and discovered that adding a lime takes the taste to the next level.

Took the plunge and purchase the juice power trilogy.
Decided to quit smoking and is now on Champix(R). Hopefully it can help me to navigate this difficult period.

Another way I thought is through juicing to help clean up my already damaged lungs, liver etc. Any tips?

  • Bear Hands

Hey Mike, I posted over on your RoK sponsored article for your Fit Juice books. I was 282 pounds on February 1st and I started juicing on February 5th when I got my juicer. I have not done anything crazy except replace my lunch every day with about 20-30 ounces of juice. As of March 8th, I’m down to 262, and I’m aiming to get below 250 in 2015. If I happen to do it sooner than the end of the year, I’m setting a new goal. Thanks for introducing me to juicing. It was the missing key on my journey to getting healthy.

    • Mike Cernovich

That’s fantastic. Thanks for letting me know. Congrats!

    • Abu Husain

      Amazing progress!

  • Imran

Mike, I want to affiliate market you fit-juice-trilogy book from my natural food/cooking/eating healthy lifestyle facebook fan page. Was wondering if you have to approve me on e junkie or anything? Did you put it on any other sites than e junkie?

Mike, do you recommend men do another kind of juicing, steroids? And if so, what kind?
