I’m not much of a participant of any sites other than Youtube and using Disqus to reply to comments sections. I can tell you the basics. Life in Nicaragua wasn’t that bad prior to “Sandinism” (which was basically our “Che”). Somoza was actually a decent guy. He used to throw parties for people and get them paid all by the state to celebrate. But Marxism came to poison people’s minds, in a “Bernie Sanders” way (and surprise surprise, Sanders was a huge backer of Daniel Ortega). Universities and schools had been hijacked by the “Sandinista” movement, and were starting to push people to tow the party line. They started supplying average people with assault rifles, like FN FAL’s and AK47’s.

A resistance formed, and started being supplied by the US in the form of Ronald Reagan, your “Contras”.

The sad reality is that a bunch of peasant men, suddenly had positions of power, and a machine gun in their hands, and suddenly felt “powerful” and “important”. So they started pushing their weight around and all the atrocities you mention did happen, multiple times. But it wasn’t a “Contras” only deal. It was any dumbass who felt the surge of power that the Marxist ideology (“steal from the rich and give to the poor”) gave them, along with a weapon of war in their hands, in a country were the “enemy” was a bunch of poor peasants strugging to survive.

It literally was fucking Fallout 3 and 4, where a bunch of raiders feel powerful by terrorizing the little guy.

Did contras do atrocities? absolutely. Did Sandinistas do the same? just as much, if not more. What’s the state of Nicaragua now? Daniel Ortega is a rich fuck, everyone else struggles to live, just as they had before, except now people who were friends, but because bitter enemies (and had shot at each other in the war) now struggled to find their friendship again.

I remember reading the Wiki entry on the whole thing and being shocked how accurate it was. That was like a decade ago. I will read it again, and if I feel it’s accurate, will recommend its reading.

Sadly I agree. What happened back then was that those of criminal mind took up the arms given to them, while the cowards hid and/or got killed. The resistance was made of another bunch of criminal who just happened to oppose the first ones.

No real good people fought, the “good hearted” people were too chicken to defend themselves. I’d like to believe I would have been one, but I was only like 12 at the time.

That is because you do not realize how ignorant most people are, not just about where you come from, but about life in general.

You know what it means when a society fucks up on such a massive scale, and so you are rightfully embarrassed by such a thing. And good for you, because it shows you will never allow that to happen again.

But the horrible truth is that most people in the West are so pathetic we do not realize why such a thing should even be embarassing.

Do you understand? I am saying that in a sane world, you should be embarrassed, unfortunately you are in a world of even more embarassing people. If I were you, I would seriously pity all the morons around me. Because you know that they are collectively fucking up on an even larger level, and that they are truly, truly stupid.
