How can a man think like a man? You have provided some awesome answers already.
Hello, this is Mike from DangerAndPlay.com and today we’re going to talk about the nature of truth.
Before we go there however, I wanted to thank all of you for the ratings and reviews you’ve left on iTunes.
We are currently at 62 ratings and 35 reviews for this podcast which is absolutely incredible. If you look at a lot of other podcasts that have been around for a while, even ones written by big names, they don’t even have as many reviews. And we don’t have a six-figure marketing team behind us. We don’t have people in the Philippines, Thailand, or the Ukraine writing fake reviews, which is how the game is really played.
People hire a marketing firm and they have fake reviews they have fake listens. None of that. This is all organic. This is all us. So it’s more like we have 600 ratings if you want to compare to everyone else because for every real rating, there’s 10 fake ratings out there so again guys, I’m really grateful that you left those reviews.
Thank you so much.
And now we are going to tackle a reader and question and I’m not sure how we’re going to tackle this. Maybe this is the first part of many. Maybe this is the only part, you tell me. But I posted it first on DangerAndPlay.com. So if you’re listening to this today, just go to the front page of Danger & Play and read “Can You Answer This Reader Question?”
If this podcast finds you sometime in the future then look for the post on July 15th, 2014.
Here’s the question:
You have a lot written about improving how to think, and what to do, about girls, fitness, socio-sexual relations; what would you suggest someone do to improve the way he thinks and evaluates information and understands the world around him?
That is one of those questions that you read and you go, WOW. I posted it out there for Danger & Play readers to get to and we already have 56 comments and we just have some fantastic comments and I encourage you to read them.
Right now, I would give you what I guess we would call the first guiding principle of how I evaluate the world: if it ain’t open-sourced, I don’t trust it.
Here’s what I mean by open sourced: let me see your data. You can use this to evaluate any kind of claim that anyone makes. Let’s not get too political, but we can talk about climate change. It used to be called global warming when I was a kid. There was a hole in the ozone layer and then we got to global warming. Then the global warming models didn’t quite predict what people thought they would predict.
So now they say, “Oh, well, it’s climate change.” Now I’m not here to tell you that climate change exists or don’t exist, there’s no reason to go there but you’ll notice that they won’t open source their models and they won’t open source their data.
They say, “Oh, well people could make mischief with them, etc.” But that’s a cop-out. I open-source everything. That’s why at Danger & Play: here’s my blood work, here’s what my testosterone level is, here’s what I’m currently doing, here’s how I currently train. Today I just posted a DEXA scan.
There was a guy by the name of Tim Ferriss who wrote a book call the 4-hour Body and he claimed, “I gained 34 pounds of muscle.” And if you actually Google the before and after pictures he played a lot of hijinks with his pics. He made his before picture shrink, and then his after picture he made it bigger. And then he did all the usual stuff where in the before picture you get really dehydrated and you’re hairy and you hide your quads. And then in the after picture you shave your body, get a good tan, you change the lighting and then BOOM you look bigger.
Here’s what I did. Here’s my DEXA scan. This is open and transparent. When I say on Danger & Play that I’m all natural, anybody who wants to come to me right now and give me a blood test, come find me. I’ve been recognized several times in public now. I’ve been recognized at the gym, Whole Foods, a coffee shop, at another gym, at another coffee shop. So hey man, I’m completely transparent. I open-source everything: this is who I am; this is what I’m about. Open source.
The same is true of the media.
Have you ever wondered how you can go on Business Insider and those other sites and there are just all these articles?
Day after day after day? What they don’t tell you is that those articles are written by a public relations firm. What’ll happen is that a PR firm will pre-write a story for a reporter. And a reporter just like a scientist, just like a doctor, just like the rest of us…hey if you can find the easy way out, isn’t that what we all want? A quick story?
They pre-write them and send them to these websites like Business Insider and even “legit” websites The Washington Post or the New York Times. And then the reporter, maybe he makes a phone call or does some kind of thing to make him seem like he’s not a complete and total shill for this firm and then they publish it.
Ask anybody who works in journalism where their sources come from, where do their ideas come from? Did a public relations firm pre-write that story? Did they give them the idea?
Why don’t we open source everything? I’m a huge believer…I open source everything.
A lot of you guys in Tech maybe don’t believe in patents and stuff like that so, I’m not necessary talking about open-sourcing all software. I’m talking about opening sourcing every claim that anybody makes. Show me your data.
You say you’re a millionaire? OK, let’s see your bank account. You say that you’re making a million dollars on the internet? Let’s see some statements. Let’s see some stuff that, at least if you’re going to be fraudulent or falsify stuff, that would be hard to falsify.
Maybe in theory, my DEXA scan isn’t real and I photoshopped it, but man that would take a lot of work and you guys are smart when it comes to this tech stuff you guys ware way smarter than me. I mean I’m not kissing your butt, but you guys post things and I’m just like “holy shit I have no idea what he’s talking about. That is just, wow, way over my head.” So you guys are going to catch me, so I know that I can’t lie. I’m open and transparent.
So let’s be open and transparent about everything. I want to see a news article that says, “Hey I got this idea from a political person.” Or “I got this idea about a hit job on Mitt Romney or Obama; I got this from a republican or a democrat.”
Wouldn’t that be amazing if we just open sourced everything?
I would like to hear about access journalism. How many of you men know about access journalism? If you don’t let me give you a quick summary: have you ever noticed that there aren’t that many negative posts about celebrities? I’ll tell you why. All of these celebrities go to the same public relations firms and here’s why.
Let’s say Mike Danger wants to go legit and I don’t want embarrassing details of myself getting out there. I sign with the PR firm and I give them a huge retainer, and even for a nobody like me it would be $15,000 and for the big guys it would be 6-figures. Because of that, I have bought protection.
Here’s how it works: “Oh, you’re going to publish something ad about me? OK.” Then I call my PR person. The PR person calls the “reporter”, that independent seeker of truth and says, “You know, if you put Mike Danger on blast, you’ll never get to interview Scarlett Johansson, Christian Bale, Tom Crews, you’ll never get access to any of these.”
That’s what I mean by access journalism.
“Well how about this, don’t blast Mike Danger and wouldn’t you like to have this interview with Ben Affleck? Well how about we give you access to Ben Affleck and you just leave Mike Danger alone? Wouldn’t that be cool?”
That’s how it works. But you don’t know any of this. Some of you do, but a lot of you are thinking, “Holy cow I didn’t know about this.” Google access journalism. That’s how it works. Why don’t we open source this? If there is a story on Christian Bale, let’s see who Christian Bale’s PR firm is, let’s see how many other clients are represented by that person, let’s talk about that reporter’s relationship that firm. Did that reporter go to college with that person who runs that PR firm?
Isn’t this interesting guys? Isn’t this crazy? This is how you start to look deep and how you start to evaluate the world. If there’s one thing I could suggestion to improve the way you think and evaluate information and understand the world, ask for data.
Mark Sisson, Tim Ferris, Dave Asprey, Tucker Max, Geoffrey Miller. All those guys that are saying “Hey, I can help you raise your testosterone naturally. Hey I’m all natural. Hey this and that.”
OK guys, let’s see the data. You claim you are all natural? Post your blood work. You claim that you are telling the truth? Let’s see the DEXA scans.
Let’s see that raw information. Open source it all. Send it out to the community.
Because if you are telling the truth what do you have to hide? I’ve nothing to hide. Here’s my life. Here’s what I look like. Here’s what my girlfriend looks like. Here’s my blood work. Here’s what I advise people to do.
I show it all. I’m completely open and transparent. So because of that, you can evaluate me. Now some of you might say, “Oh I saw his pics and maybe he’s a little fatter than I thought.” Or. “I thought he’d be more ripped.” And that’s completely cool. That’s your right as an independent man and as a rational man to look at me and say, “Ehh, you know, maybe he’s right on some things, maybe he isn’t.”
Because that’s what I want you to be, free thinkers. Men. Real men who are logical, rational, and think for yourselves. And yeah, that means you have to be aggressive. You sometimes have to question those so-called gurus.
Why won’t Mark Sisson post his blood work? Why won’t Dave Asprey?
There here to tell you how to live their lives. What’s there cholesterol? What’s their testosterone? What’s their luteinizing hormone? Are they on TRT? Well how much TRT? Let’s see the TRT work. Are they on HGH? Are they on thyroid?
Let’s post the blood work right? That’s how you do it. Start demanding answers, if people want to sell you something especially. The minute a man wants to sell you something…then he owes you. Because he wants to reach into your pockets.
Some guy wants to be on the internet and be a keyboard warrior and a hero, ok fine, leave him alone. But if I want your money or anyone else wants your money.
You have the right to say, “You know what? I want transparency.”
By thinking that way, you’ll completely evaluate the world around you. Why doesn’t the media open source things? What is the source of the story? Where did this actually come from? What is this reporter’s agenda? Why won’t the climate change people actually post there raw data? Why won’t they open source all of their models? Why won’t they just upload all that stuff onto a server and let people evaluate for themselves? Why do they believe they are experts and everything has to be filtered through them?
In a way it’s like religion isn’t it?
The god speaks through the Pope speaks through his priests. The priests speak to you. And then the priests are playing with little boys right? Isn’t that how we get there, autocracy? Isn’t that how we get to tyranny, because they don’t open source anything?
Whereas I believe you can talk to god yourself. Whether god is Judeo-Christian, Islam. Whether the god what I believe, more of the universe and more of what you would call a kind of source. I believe you can talk to god directly. Open source everything.
So there you go men. Do you want to know how to evaluate the world? You want to be a hardcore thinker? You want to be an ass-kicker? Ask people to see the data. Open source it.
Until next time, this is Mike from DangerAndPlay.com.
