The End of an Alpha

Young men often complain about the cruelty and unfairness of modern society. This moving video of an old alpha lion (who had led an aggressive pride for years) being castrated by the young lions is a reminder that life is cruel. There are no rules. There is only exercise of will.

As one viewer writes, we can learn from this lion:

A hard life. When one sees the heart and pride of a lion it becomes apparent most utilize the comparison too loosely. Fighting and not breaking to the end. Broken limbs, bleeding, massive wounds, and they still don’t give an inch. So much bravado and heart.

If memory serves correctly the one getting killed in the vid (Kinky Tail or Mr. T) was one of two brothers who ruled an area with a high level of aggression and a high body count over the years. You reap what you sow I guess.

[Here is the backstory; and here.]

The day before he and his brother killed a lion from the younger group. It too is on vid and it’s brutal as well.

This time the tables turned and the level of violence which includes castration and hours and hours of torment and attack makes ones really feel.

Amazing displays and sad as well.

“There are no rules. There is only excercise of will.”

    Amen.

This is feminism. You cadge a video that is viscerally disgusting, and then you pawn it off as plausible.

This is sick fucking shit. There is no reason for this shit. And you call it credible.

    Eat it, scumbags.

This is sick shit. Don’t pretend it makes a goddamned point. It doesn’t. It’s nothing but reactionary garbage.

    Morons.

It’s like those penis-cutting vids of broads chopping off dudes’ cocks and flushing them down the toilet.

    WHY??!!

    Sick, perverted shit.

    Get some class, you assholes.

What the fuck are you talking about? These are wild animals fighting. It really doesn’t get much more “credible” or “plausible” than that…

This video wasn’t particularly graphic. It shows one lion that’s pretty beat up getting nipped at by a few others. I’ve seen worse on PBS.

I never knew male lions worked together like that, though.

Fitting of a poem by Dylan Thomas:

Do not go gentle into that good night,
    Old age should burn and rage at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

You’ll like the ending scene of ‘The Grey':

    Once more into the fray
Into the last good fight I’ll ever know
Live and die on this day
Live and die on this day

I actually saw the movie last night. Very disappointing, the “men” in that movie were pathetic- giving into despair and hopeless, running away instead of mustering up their courage and facing the problem directly. Philosophically, the movie was artery clogging garbage (but, to be fair, the movie is a good representation of how most “men” would react in that situation).

The Edge, a movie with a very similar premise, is much more inspiring:

    who is gay Zorro?

Kinda makes me think about getting older myself, and the watching the younger cats move into the scene, preying on the same limited number of worthwhile women and the possibility of territory struggle. The youngs have the energy and ferocity, the mature have the knowledge and experience…

Currently reading the book straw dogs. Even the proudest alpha lion is trampled into the dust when he outlives his usefulness. This is some existentially terrifying stuff.
